Taber is 51 km east of Lethbridge at the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 36, the largest community this site serves outside the city. The 2021 census counted 8,862 residents in 3,347 occupied homes. It is the Corn Capital of Canada, home to the Rogers Sugar beet plant built in 1950 and a Frito-Lay snack factory, and it holds Cornfest on the last full weekend of August, which is also when a lot of yards get cleared.
Because Taber is the farthest stop, pickups are batched onto a Taber route day rather than sent as single trips. That keeps a full truck at the Lethbridge price; a single light item may wait for the next Taber day or be worth combining with a neighbour's load. The hauler sorts metal, clean wood and usable furniture at the truck, which matters more on a long haul because the disposal fee at the far end is by the tonne.
