North Lethbridge is the oldest side of the city. It sits across the Crowsnest Trail and the CPKC rail line from downtown, was first settled by workers from the coal mines, and still has the oldest population of Lethbridge's three sections along with most of the industrial parks. It also takes in the former hamlet of Hardieville, annexed in 1978. Housing here runs from pre-war miners' cottages and 1950s bungalows near Stafford Drive to the newer subdivisions on the northern edge, which means the north side produces both the estate cleanouts and the first renovations of homes now past their prime.
The north side is also the closest part of the city to the Waste and Recycling Centre, which is reached by following 28 Street North until the road bends about 7 km out of town, and to the City's North depot at 2200 Stafford Drive North, where recycling is accepted around the clock and yard waste and mattresses from April to mid-November. Short hauls mean the crew can run more than one truckload a day from a north-side house.
Common North Lethbridge jobs: garage and basement cleanouts in the older grid, renovation debris from bungalows built before 1990, where joint compound and flooring should be checked for asbestos before demolition, and scrap-heavy loads from workshops and acreage-style lots on the north edge that go to metal recycling rather than the landfill.
